This Installation was made in response to the volunteers efforts to stop the floods in Somerset.
This installation recreates the power of rising water levels against human rescue efforts. By working together several people pumping keeps the water in the top container. However, with only one person pumping, the glass container (representing Burrow Bridge Village) would fill up. Therefore working together, you can temporarily hold off the water levels.
Eventually the water reaches the candle wick. A metaphor for how no matter how hard people tried to protect their homes, the unforgiving strength of the rising water would always subdue.
